Democracy

Democracy is that form of government in which the ruling power is vested not in any individual. Elections are held and people vote to choose their representatives, normally the gap between two electrons is five years. People are free to choose the leaders of their own choice. This choice is usually based on the performance of the representatives. If a leader as an individual or the government do not perform well, the people are free to criticize them,

Democracy is very important for human development. When people have free will to live freely, they will be happier. Moreover, we have seen how other forms of government have turned out to be. Citizens are not that happy and prosperous in a monarchy or anarchy.

 Pakistan is also a democratic country. Its government consists of National Assembly and the Senate General elections are held every five years. People choose the members of the National Assembly in General elections. The senate members are chosen by the members of the National Assembly.

Unfortunately, the democratic system had failed badly in the last few decades. There are many causes of its failure. The first and foremost are the feudal and the tribal system. Most of the time, people choose a man who belongs to their tribe, irrespective of his character and political career.

The second cause is illiteracy, uneducated people have no enough awareness to decide between right and wrong. Therefore, they cannot choose the right person.

 The economic condition of the country also plays a vital role in this regard. If the people are poor, their votes can easily be purchased. Therefore, democracy cannot give good results in poor economic conditions.

Another important condition is the rule of law. It allows the law to prevail efficiently as the rules are made by people whom they have selected.

Democracy allows people of various religions and cultures to exist peacefully. It makes them live in harmony with one another. People of democracy are more tolerant and accepting of each other’s differences. This is very important for any country to be happy and prosper.
