Acellular
The organisms/structures that do not have cell organization e.g. viruses, viroids, and prions.
Animalia
The kingdom includes multicellular heterotrophs that ingest food and digest it in body parts.
Binomial nomenclature
The system of naming organisms, in which the name consists of two words i.e. generic name and species name.
Biodiversity
The variety of species present in an ecosystem and the variety of organisms in each species.
Class
Ataxon that contains related orders.
Classification
The grouping of organisms based on similarities found in them.
Conservation
Defining the endangered and threatened species and taking measures for their protection.
Deforestation
Cutting down trees and converting forests into non-forest areas.
Endangered species
The species is at risk of becoming extinct because few members are left.
Family
A taxon that contains related genera.
Fauna
Fauna can refer to the animal life or classification of animals of a certain region, period, or environment. Fauna is also of Latin origin. In Roman Mythology Fauna was the sister of Faunus, a good spirit of the forest and plains.
Flora
By definition, the flora is a word of Latin origin referring to Flora, the goddess of flowers. Flora can refer to a group of plants, a disquisition of a group of plants, as well as bacteria. Flora is the root of the word floral, which means flowers.
Fungi
Eukaryotic heterotrophs absorb food and contain chitin in their cell walls.
Genus
A taxon that contains related species.
Monera
The kingdom includes prokaryotes.
Order
Ataxon that contain related families.
Phylum
A taxon contains related classes.
Plantae
The kingdom of multicellular eukaryotic autotrophs.
Prion
The acellular particles that consists of protein only.
Soil erosion
Loss of topsoil often results from deforestation and wind or water erosion.
Protista
The kingdom containing the unicellular, colonial or simple multicellular eukaryotes.
Species
A group of similar organisms that can naturally interbreed among themselves to produce fertile offspring.
Systematics
The branch deals with the classification and evolutionary histories of organisms.
Taxon
The groups into which organisms are classified. 25. Taxonomic hierarchy: The arrangement of taxonomic taxa.
Viroid
The acellular particles consist of circular RNA Only.
Archaebacteria
The monerans evolved first and live in extreme habitats.
Eubacteria
The monerans evolved after the archaebacteria.
Eukaryote
An organism that contain eukaryotic cells.
Monophyletic
In the evolutionary tree, the group of descendants has the same ancestor.
Prokaryote
Unicellular organisms that do not have a distinct nucleus in their cells e.g. bacteria.
Subspecies
The smaller division of the taxon of species.
Threatened species
The species are at risk of becoming extinct in the near future.
