ClassNotes is an ed-tech startup providing free educational resources and funds to the underprivileged students of the MENA region.
The idea behind ClassNotes came about when Ozaal Zesha, an alumnus of Plan9 Technology Incubator (Lahore) and Capital Factory Accelerator (USA), came back from Oman and was spending his free time at home. At the time his younger brother was preparing for his class 9 exams. One day Ozaal walked in on his brother while he was using the computer for seemingly entertainment purposes, just days before his annual examinations. He immediately confronted his brother to explain to him why he was wasting his time instead of being productive. To this, his brother replied that he was actually studying. Upon closer inspection, Ozaal realized this his brother was using an educational website for online notes. The website had put up cheap quality notes and was overflowing with flashy ads.
From this point onwards the idea of me, a better educational platform to help students prepare their exams, was born. I was designed to be an online platform (website + mobile application) which would help students ace their exams, get access to quality education online, have an insanely great user experience, and be affordable. This project was an act of charity and I aspire to do something good for the sake of humanity. My purpose is to provide free education to students around the world who cannot afford quality education. I want to present great quality notes and ads-free website which will not distract students from studying. With a vision like this, I am determined to go far.
With time, students started using me as a website to prepare for exams. Notes for secondary school and high school classes were uploaded to for the students of FBISE. My user base began growing at an exponential rate and the response was amazing. However, in early 2018 my servers could not handle the traffic and I crashed. This came as a huge blow to my founder but fortunately, we managed to gather funds to buy a better hosting package and my journey didn’t stop.
Now, I have been endorsed by multiple national and international organizations for the work that I have done. I’m now being supported by the Government of Punjab, Plan9 Technology Incubator, UK Aid Ilm Ideas, ITU Centre for Civic Innovation Lahore, and Ye! Community of Child and Youth Finance International.
Furthermore, I hope to emerge as a tool that can help students and provide the best quality education to those who cannot afford it. I would end this story with this favorite quote of mine
“Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark. In the hopeless swamps of the non-quite, the not-yet, and the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists. It is real. It is possible. It’s yours.” ― Ayn Rand
